Ice cream is a great destination for a ride with the family. Whenever we go for family hikes we have a destination in mind, a waterfall or maybe an overlook with a view. Sometimes it's easy to overlook the opportunity for mini-adventures with your family. Sure, ice cream isn't as stunning as the natural beauty we're so lucky to have in spades around Maryville, but it is great motivation for the youngsters and parents alike! Try a different route each time, gradually adding in more miles, different parts of the greenway, or different challenges such as hills, and add in different stops to break it up as needed.
The destination gives purpose to the ride. It shows kids that riding provides adventure and that bikes are not only fun, but a mode of transportation. I've seen these small events give my girls more self-confidence and a zest for the small things in life. It also provides great perspective for the adults, well, it does for me anyhow. Finally, it's a great way to earn those frozen calories!
Find a destination, with a sweet ending, or not, it doesn't really matter as long as there is a destination to focus on. Change it up and explore the greenways, parks, and neighborhoods around Maryville and Alcoa. You can ride safely with your family to so many places. Be creative and find your next mini-adventure.
