Every ride shall contain some sort of off-road excursion. That's a rule we implemented for the month in our household. Riding to the park or store? Swing through the Maryville college woods to connect roads and greenways. Riding your road bike or city bike? Even better! All bikes like dirt, it's a fact.
Did you know that Alcoa has a half-mile mountain bike trail just off of the greenway a N. Wright Road near the Universal Street intersection? It's great and I appreciate those involved with making it happen. I discovered it last Spring (although it apparently opened in 2012) and try to fit it into my rides when I'm out in that area. It's a great place to give the young ones a chance to give dirt a chance. I'd love to see this expand. Maybe even add small loops in available spaces adjacent to the greenways in other areas of Alcoa and Maryville. If you've not been, go check it out. If you like it, let's give some feedback to the city. I would love to be involved with developing this further.
Get out there and find some dirt, heck ride across a soccer field if that's all you have access too on a ride. The point is to just get out and have fun on your bike. I just think getting dirty makes it a bit more fun!
