Finding a new trail, route, or destination is what it's all about. That gets me jazzed to ride. Sometimes though, I find other things while out on a ride that are pretty cool too. I've run across plenty of undesirable things, one's I dare not touch, lest I want to contract something. Although I do my best to pick up trash, especially on the mountain bike as well. But I'm talking "finds" here, good stuff.
One man's trash is another man's treasure, so they say. Some of my treasures include a nice crescent wrench that I still use today, a "student driver" magnet which I've had some fun with (sorry sis!), and probably my favorite find of all time....a Halo headband. If you've never experienced a Halo headband, you owe it to yourself to try one if you have short hair. It is a thin headband which is a welcome change form some of the bulky ones, those just don't fit under helmets. The kicker is that the Halo has a rubber piece that runs the length of your forehead and redirects sweat from dripping in your eyes. It's a sweat deflector built into your headband and it works extremely well. I found the Halo on a ride several years ago in a trail-head parking lot. It was dirt encrusted and looked partially reclaimed by the gravel parking lot. I dug it out, dusted it off, and yeah...I wore it on that ride. My wife would not have approved. I have since bought a few more of these headbands and wear them on nearly any ride which will include any significant sweating.
Stop and smell the roses...and pick up the treasures you find on the road and trail. Let me know your favorite finds...or better yet, hit up the Happy Bike Facebook page and send a picture and a story.
